SMD Hydrovision of Tyne and Wear are the company who conceived and developed the TidEL concept. The TidEL system consists of two contra-rotating 500kw turbines mounted on a single crossbeam. Each unit is bouyant and tethered to the seabed. The fact that they are free to float around means that they are able to align themselves automatically downstream of changing tidal streams through the day and night.
