Tidal Energy New Zealand

The first large-scale tidal energy generation scheme in New Zealand has been granted Government permission.
The scheme will consist of 200 tidal turbine generators in an 8-square-kilometre submarine field in Northland's Kaipara Harbour.
The scheme could play a significant role in the development renewable energy generation in New Zealand.
Installation of turbines will be staged, with three at first, so effects can be monitored.
It is thought Irish company OpenHydro may provide the project's turbines.
